Nothing is constant except for change. Fashion is nothing but a constantly changing trend; it is the way you look and how you rock what you wear. What do our clothes say about it? They say a lot about us. The 80s fashion trend is back again for females and they are killing it! The girls are definitely “on fire”! As for me, I design my own shirts, and I hope to make it big one day.

Welcome to my fashion corner (Image 1)

I got started making my own shirts out of boredom. Also, I did not have a lot of money so making clothes was a great way to save money. Making shirts is amazing! In my home country of Haiti, my grandmother always made clothes for the kids; in Haiti we did not rely on buying clothes.

For me, I enjoy making clothes. At first it can by annoying because of all the layouts that have to be done first, but when you want to make something you find inspiration. Once you find inspiration, you will create the most beautiful thing. A simple color can inspire me. For example, the colors of the sunset are some of the most beautiful and my favorite to work with. The type of texture that you decide to use when making your shirts and how you decide to sew it also speaks to your personal tastes.

It can be difficult to learn how to make clothes without going to school for it. I was not taught formally; some time with my grandmother, a few YouTube videos and some fun with scissors is what taught me how to make clothes. Learning on my own made it so much better when I finished my first shirt!

Summer is coming up and I am excited to start making some tops for the new season. I do not have to worry about spending a lot of money; I can make what I want for just a little. One of my favorite types of shirts to make has an open back with two big string crisscrossing. This type of shirt can be sexy but is also classy.

In a society that many girls feel body shamed because they are not “fit” or maybe feel they are too skinny, I want my clothes to inspire and help others feel good about them. Being positive and loving you is the key to fashion! What I make is what I feel and even if others are trying to body shame girls, I want them to understand that self-love is the key to a happy you! Hopefully my clothes can make people happy like that one day. While I just make the clothes for myself right now, one day I plan to make them for many people!
