On February 12, 2017 , Chance the Rapper made music history, by becoming the first independent artist--without a major label backing--to be nominated and win three Grammys. Chance performed two songs off his Coloring Book album, “How Great” and “All We Got”. He won best new artist, rap album, and rap performance. Coloring Book was the first album to chart on the Billboard 200 and also was the first streaming-only album ever to win a Grammy. Chance won best rap performance for “No Problem” with Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz. Chance was also nominated for several awards.

Chance started his career when he released his first mixtape, 10 Day, only as a senior in high school. This mixtape got significant buzz and critical acclaim. 10 day has been streamed over two million times and downloaded more than one million times. This mixtape is what shaped his independent career and then he went on to release his freshman mixtape Acid Rap.

Acid Rap was released in early 2013 and was nominated for Best Mixtape at the 2013 BET music awards. It was also ranked 23rd on the "Rolling Stones" best albums of 2013, and first on their best mixtapes of 2013. Many of his songs on this album were streamed more than ten million times, with the most popular one being streamed 52 million times. I am sure that Chance the Rapper is off to a great career in the music industry!
