"Logan": A Movie Review

The last movie in the X Men series, Logan, is emotional, humorous, and, gruesome. It keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat from start to finish. The movie, which came out on March 3rd, stars Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. It is 2 hours and 18 minutes long, but it has a half hour of previews, so be prepared to be in the theater for three hours.

Original theatrical poster for Logan

This action-packed science fiction movie follows the story of a young girl mutant who was created in a lab. Logan is charged with protecting the girl as well as Charles, his mentor and friend from the 9 previous movies in the series, who has fallen into dementia. In this movie the audience meets Logan as a disgruntled alcoholic who wants to die and by the ending finds a man who is surprised by the love he finds for a girl he learns is his daughter.

Wolverine's daughter, Laura, has the same powers he does, and is perhaps even stronger than he. She was raised in a lab with other children with similar powers, but has been separated from them in an attempt to save them from being used as weapons. She is scared and hesitant to speak, but she does what she needs to do to protect herself in her journey to find the place Wolverine is convinced only exists in the fantasy of X Men comics. Although this is Hugh Jackman's last time playing wolverine he is humbled that he's been able to entertain for so long and he says “It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it. … I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out .”

Logan is rated R for strong language, violence and brief nudity.
